Recipe club is go! We ate Turkish bread, pistachio duke and last year’s green olives from our tree.

This year I’ve been part of a recipe club and I am loving it. Every two months, we meet at someone’s house for a bring-a-plate foodie fiesta. There are eight of us – plus or minus a couple each time, life being the busy, unwieldy beast that it is. Each night is themed: we’ve done Peruvian, Sicilian, Explosion, Curvy and last night was Turkish at my place. We eat, drink, talk and share recipes.

I found a few Turkish knickknacks…

There are eight women in the group – they’re all lovely but I didn’t know them all when we started, and even the ones I knew weren’t close friends. But sharing meals every couple of months is such a nice way to get to know people – and I don’t even see some of my really good, old friends that often these days (life being the beast etc…)

I’m pretty happy with this Turkish bread, made in the Thermomix. Click for the recipe.

We’ve eaten some delicious things. I can’t stop thinking about last night’s chicken and cornbread dumpling soup with toasted hazelnuts. We’ve eaten some weird things – the trout cooked sous vide in a backyard space was the funniest, and it worked brilliantly too. Not everything has been exceptional: I wish I’d cooked my Brussels sprout and blue cheese beignets till they were golden brown not brown brown! But each night has been fun and different and excessive and warm.
