The business of freelance writing is a crowded market, with few opportunities to get a start let alone build recognition and reputation and, importantly, make a living.
For Melbourne-based Dani Valent, the key was to diversify and “give anything a go” as a jack of all trades before she became the master of one.
Valent, who describes herself as a writer, eater and cook, stumbled on an opening in the market to combine all three talents as the author of pioneering, glossy Thermomix cookbooks. She was the first, she believes, in Australia to publish cookbooks specific to the popular kitchen appliance, in a large, luxury format beyond the cooking manual supplied with the machine on purchase.
